Electrical inspectors are responsible for ensuring that electrical installations and systems comply with the applicable electrical codes, regulations, and safety standards. Their primary role is to inspect electrical work performed in residential, commercial, and industrial settings to ensure it meets the required standards for safety and functionality.
Electrical Plan Reviewers are responsible for reviewing and approving electrical plans and specifications for proposed electrical installations. Their role is crucial in ensuring that electrical systems comply with applicable codes, regulations, and safety standards before construction or installation begins.
To apply for your electrical code official registration, contact the Michigan Department of Licensing and Regulatory Affairs at 517-241-0199 or visit their website.
Both inspectors and plan reviewers are required to complete state approved continuing education to renew their registrations. Inspectors are required to complete a total of 34 hours of CE. Plan reviewers are required to complete a total of 40 hours of CE. Michigan has limited reciprocity arrangements, check with the board for the most up-to-date information.
