Journeyman / Master Mechanical Licensing, Education & Exam Prep

If you wish to engage in mechanical work in the State of Kansas, you must first obtain a license. However, mechanical masters and journeymen are not required to obtain a license from the state. Instead, you are required to obtain a license through your local city, county, or jurisdiction. The information on this page is based on the requirements for Johnson County, Sedgwick County, Shawnee County, and Douglas County licenses.

At RocketCert, we offer industry leading exam prep to help you pass your exam on the first try. In addition, we stock the references that you need and can use during the exam. All of our training is available online to help you achieve your goal of obtaining a Kansas Journeyman / Master Mechanical License.

How do I obtain a license?

In Kansas, licenses are administered on a county level and not a state level. Contact your local licensing board to submit an application.

Most counties require plumbers to complete continuing education to renew their licenses. The required topics and number of hours vary between counties. Check with your local licensing authority for the most accurate information regarding continuing education. Reciprocity agreements exist between many counties in Kansas. Contact your local city, county, or jurisdiction to find out where your license has reciprocity agreements.
