C-42 Roofing Contractor
Licensees are permitted to install roofing to an acceptable surface and provide a weather tight covering using metal; composition and cementitious shingles; wood shingles and shakes; concrete, clay, and other types of tile; built-up, modified bitumen, single ply, and fluid type systems; and other roofing materials including spray urethane foam, asphalt, and liquid (cutback) asphalt. To apply protective or reflective roofing, or both. To apply deck coatings and top coatings. To also install roof flashing in connection with all of the above.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
C-42 Roofing Contractor- Be at least 18 years of age.
- Have a good reputation for honesty, truthfulness, financial integrity, and fair dealing.
- Have 4 years of supervisory experience within the last 10 years.
- Contractors must maintain continuous insurance coverage throughout licensure and keep evidence of insurance on file with the board.
- Submit application and fees with all required documentation:
- Experience certificates
- Chronological history of projects form
- Credit Report
- Entity appointment
- Schedule your exams upon approval of your application.
- Pass the C-42 Roofing exam along with the Hawaii Business and Law exam.
How do I obtain a roofing contractor license?
To submit your contractors license application, contact the Hawaii Department of Commerce and Consumer Affairs Professional & Vocational Licensing Division at 808-586-3000 or visit the board's website. While there are no continuing education requirements, all contractors licensed in Hawaii expire on November 30th of even numbered years. Renewal applications must be sent to the board prior to this date.

How do I pass the exam?
The Hawaii exams are closed book.
