District of Columbia Air Conditioning licenses are regulated by the District of Columbia Board of Industrial Trades. They govern licensure for Journeyman and Master Electricians. Check the information below to see exactly what the state requires prior to filing an application.

A Journeyman Air Conditioning is qualified to supervise or perform any work required in connection with the installation, maintenance, repair, or replacement of refrigeration or air conditioning systems up to and including twenty-five (25) compressor horsepower or the equivalent tons of refrigeration in the aggregate, subject to the limitations set forth in §301.
A Master Air Conditioning is qualified to supervise or perform any work required in connection with the installation, maintenance, repair, or replacement of any refrigeration or air conditioning system, including the components of a system, regardless of the size and nature of the system, subject to the limitations set forth in §301.
Applicants must meet at least one of the following criteria
Pass the required Journeyman/Master Refrigeration & Air Conditioning exam
To apply for your license, contact the District of Columbia District of Columbia Board of Industrial Trades at 1-866-270-9817 or visit the DCRA website to submit online.
District of Columbia does not require continuing education for Journeyman and Master Refrigeration & Air Conditioning. District of Columbia has no reciprocity agreements for Master or Journeyman Refrigeration & Air Conditioning.
