C-58/CR-58 Commercial and Dual Contractor Licensing & Exam Prep
Arizona Comfort Heating, Ventilating, Evaporative Cooling Contractor Licenses are split into Residential, Commercial, and Dual certifications. The state previously required applicants to pass a Statutes and Rules exam, and that has been replaced by the AZ Statutes and Rules Training Course and Exam (SRE) provided by the Registrar of Contractors. C-58 Commercial Comfort Heating, Ventilating, Evaporative Cooling Contractor
This classification allows the licensee to install, alter, and repair warm air heating systems, gas fired furnaces and space heaters, ventilation and evaporative cooling units, or any combination of these. If necessary, a new circuit may be added to the existing service panel or sub-panel. Excluded is the installation of a new service panel or sub-panel.

CR-58 Evaporative Cooling and Ventilating Contractor (Res. & Comm.)
This classification allows the scopes of work permitted by the commercial C-58 Comfort Heating, Ventilating, Evaporative Cooling and the residential R-39R Warm Air Heating, Evaporative Cooling, and Ventilating licenses.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Exam & Experience- Pass PSI C-58 Evaporative Cooling and Ventilation Exam
- Complete the AZ Statutes and Rules Training Course and Exam (SRE) provided by the board
- Submit 2 years hands on and/or managerial experience
- Submit Background Check for every person named on the License Application Form
- Form a legal entity
Bond Limits- Obtain a surety bond according to anticipated gross volume:
- $2,500 bond for less than $150,000
- $7,000 bond for work ranging $150,000 to $500,000
- $17,500 bond for work in excess of $500,000 to $1 million
- $25,000 bond for work in excess of $1 million to $5 million
- $37,500 bond for work in excess of $5 million to $10 million
- A $50,000 bond is required for anything over $10 million
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Arizona Registrar of Contractors at 803-896-4686 or visit their website.
The state does not require continuing education prior to each renewal. Also, Arizona has reciprocity agreements with California, Nevada, and Utah.

Topics include: Warm Air Heating; Ventilation; Controls and Motors; Sizing and Estimating; Piping and Tubing; Ducts and Insulation; Evaporative Cooling; Inspections and Testing
Applicants will take computer-based training about applicable Arizona statutes and rules and then be tested on what they learned throughout the training. Unlike the trade exams, this training course and exam is only available online and only offered through the ROC.
