Residential Building Contractor License
Licensed contractors are able to bid, supervise, and otherwise manage the construction of single family residences, the property, and other structures on the property.

Commercial Building Contractor License
For projects totaling $50,000 or more, a licensed Commercial Building Contractor is required, except for single family residential projects where a Residential Building Contractor may be used. Commercial Contractors are able to bid, supervise, and otherwise manage any demolition, construction, or alteration of public and private property.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Residential Building Contractor Requirements- Proof of four (4) years of appropriate verifiable experience in the Building industry (commercial or residential).
- Three (3) verifiable references.
- Compliance with all other state laws and regulations reasonably connected to the performance of residential building.
- Pass the Residential Building Contractor exam (pre-approval is required)
Commercial Contractor Requirements- Proof of four (4) years of appropriate verifiable experience in the Building industry (commercial or residential).
- Three (3) verifiable references.
- Verified passing score for the Business and Law exam.
- Submit a compiled financial statement showing a positive net worth excluding the applicants homestead and retirement accounts.
- Compliance with all other state laws and regulations reasonably connected to the performance of commercial building.
- Provide proof of workers' compensation insurance.
- Obtain fully executed $10,000.00 Contractor’s Bond
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Arkansas Contractors Licensing Board at 501-372-4661 or visit their website to apply online.
Residential contractors are required to have continuing education. Reciprocity agreements exist for Alabama, Tennessee, Mississippi, and Louisiana.

How do I pass the exam?
The Arkansas general contractor exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
