The license renewal requirements for barbers in North Dakota are simple: You must renew your barber license every year. Fortunately, the process is straightforward and affordable.

That said, it’s important to submit your application before the annual deadline to avoid any disruptions to your business. If your license expires, you won’t be able to legally work as a barber until it's reinstated. You’ll also incur additional renewal fees.

Here’s everything you need to know to save yourself some stress and get your license renewed on time.

How Often Does Your License Have to Be Renewed?

You’ll need to renew your barber license every year. All barber licenses in North Dakota expire on June 30. The state provides an additional grace period for barbers who don’t get their applications submitted on time.

If you fail to submit your renewal application by the June 30 deadline, you’ll have the entire month of July to pay your fees and renew. If you miss that second window, however, your license will expire on August 1.

At that point, you’ll have to pay additional reinstatement fees and won’t be able to legally work until you receive reinstatement confirmation from the North Dakota Board of Barber Examiners

Do You Need to Complete Continuing Education Hours?

Yes, you must complete six hours of continuing education every two years. The board sets CE requirements. Fortunately, North Dakota has some broad requirements, meaning you can choose from a wide range of CE topics. You’re even allowed to take online, video-based continuing education courses.

Online courses are affordable and convenient. You can complete your CE hours on your terms, and you’ll instantly receive a certificate of completion once you wrap up your course. That way, you can spend more time giving your customers awesome haircuts and continue booking appointments that fit your schedule.

Continuing education doesn’t have to be disruptive when you choose a reputable online education provider. With that in mind, select a CE provider that offers fun, valuable content and flexibility.

What Else Do You Have to Do to Renew Your Barber License?

Once you’ve met the CE requirements, all you have to do is:

  • Complete the online renewal application
  • Email your application to the Secretary of the Board of Barber Examiners
  • Pay the renewal fee
  • Wait for your license to be mailed to you

The licensing fee can be adjusted year to year. It’s currently $100, plus processing fees. Make sure you file your application early, as it can take one to two weeks for your license to be approved and mailed to you. You don’t want to risk any disruptions to your business.
