Anyone who wants to become a professional plumber in Alabama is required to earn their master or journeyman plumbing license first. This license must be obtained before the professional is legally allowed to bid on plumbing jobs or perform them. In order to obtain this professional license, however, certain requirements must be met.
Professionals with a master or journeyman plumber license in Alabama can take on a wide variety of work throughout the state. Journeyman plumber licensees can engage in the replacement, installation, or repair of all major plumbing systems.
The master plumber can perform the abilities of the journeyman plumber in addition to contracting or supervising the repair, maintenance, or installation of plumbing systems.
Each type of Alabama plumbing license comes with its own requirements and qualifications that a professional must meet to obtain that license from the state. To apply for either type of license, professionals must contact the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board.
To qualify for this type of license, you must have at least two years of experience working as a plumbing apprentice under a licensed plumber. Alternatively, you must have completed a state-approved apprentice training program.
Candidates for this license must submit an official application form to the state that has been completely filled out, signed, and notarized. Finally, candidates must pass the Alabama Journeyman Plumbing Exam.
These candidates are also required to show proof of at least one year of experience as a journeyman plumber. They must submit a signed and notarized license application form to the Alabama Plumbers and Gas Fitters Examining Board. Finally, they must pass the Master Plumbing Exam after acquiring pre-approval from the state to sit for that exam.
