Conditioned air contractors in Georgia must renew their licenses every two years. Before renewal can be approved and completed, these professionals must complete eight hours of continuing education (CE) courses through a state-approved provider.
If you’re a new conditioned air contractor in Georgia and you haven’t held your license for at least one year, you aren’t yet required to take CE courses.
If you’ve held your license for between one and two years, you’re only required to take four hours. Contractors who have held a license for two years or longer must take the full eight required hours of CE.
The eight hours of CE required are divided into two groups: four hours cover Georgia conditioned air code changes, and the other four deal with Georgia conditioned air business and management.
The code change course includes coverage of International Mechanical Code changes and International Fuel Gas Code changes. The business CE hours include education on managing and conducting business in the state.
You must complete these courses before your license’s expiration date and provide proof of completion to the state.
Conditioned air contractor licenses in Georgia expire on November 30th of odd-numbered years. Not only must your CE courses be completed before this date, but your renewal application must also be submitted before November 30th. This is the only way to avoid paying late fees.
Once you’ve completed your continuing education courses, you’ll need to create and log into an account on the Georgia Online Licensing website. After logging in, click “License Renewal'' on the left side of the page and enter your login credentials again. Then, follow the renewal instructions specific to your conditioned air license.
The Georgia State Board of Conditioned Air Contractors has posted a non-refundable application fee of $75 for license renewals. The fee increases to $100 for late renewals.
If your license has expired and you need to get it reinstated, you must meet several additional requirements.
If your license has been expired for less than three years, you must submit a reinstatement fee of $150 to the state along with your application. The application must include the following documents:
If your license has been expired for more than three years and you’re looking to renew it, you’ll need to reinstate it by filling out an application and accompanying documents, submitting the $150 fee, and re-taking the state’s conditioned air exam.
