Regardless of how long you have been a licensed plumber in Ohio, you will need to renew that license on a regular basis. How often it will need to be renewed depends on whether you chose a license that is valid for one year or one that is valid for three years.
Regardless of your license type, the state requires all professionals to take a certain number of continuing education (CE) hours to fulfill the renewal obligations.
With two license options for professionals, Ohio also has two different requirements regarding how many hours of CE a professional needs to take. If you hold a license that must be renewed each year, you will need to take eight hours of CE. If yours is a three-year license, you must take 24 hours of CE.
It’s recommended that you follow the state guidelines for receiving your continuing education curriculum. The Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board allows professional plumbers to take part of the hours online and the rest in the form of a live webinar.
If your license is annual, you can take four of the eight hours online in a self-paced format and the remaining four hours in a webinar. License holders with three-year renewals can take 12 hours online in a self-paced course and the remaining 12 in a webinar.
It should be noted that you will need a webcam on your PC to participate in the webinar. The state requires this for identification purposes.
It’s definitely in your best interests to complete all of your CE hours before the expiration date of your current license. If you fail to do so, you must take additional CE hours to renew your newly expired plumbing license in Ohio.
Specifically, annual license holders must take 10 additional hours, and three-year licensees must take 30 extra hours. There are other additional mandates too.
If you are required to take the additional CE hours, you can take only a maximum of four hours online per year of renewal. So annual license holders can take only four hours online, and three-year holders can take only 12 hours online. The rest must be done in a live setting.
You should ensure you renew before the applicable deadline to save yourself the time and effort of extra CE hours!
To complete your required training, you can participate in online courses and webinars on almost any device. While the online courses can be done on your own time at your own pace, the webinar must be done at the time you sign up for with the state.
You will be required to submit your current license and driver’s license as ID verification for the webinar.
You can’t take just any online courses or sit through any webinar; a state-approved entity like RocketCert must offer everything. With RocketCert, once you have completed the CE hours and finished your webinar, you can print out a certificate of completion right away.
In addition, RocketCert will notify the Ohio Construction Industry Licensing Board of your accomplishment the next business day. It’s just one of the many reasons more plumbers in Ohio trust RocketCert for CE courses than anyone else. Sign up with RocketCert today!
