When you hold an Ohio electrical license, you will be required to renew it according to two options. You can elect to renew it annually or renew it every three years. Every professional who needs to renew their license must complete a certain number of continuing education (CE) hours as part of the renewal requirements. 

Requirements for Renewing Your Ohio Electrical License

The number of courses you will need to take will depend on whether you renew annually or every three years. If you renew an annual license, you must complete eight hours of state-approved continuing education courses. If you renew a three-year license, you are required to take 24 hours of instruction.

The state of Ohio has determined that applicants can take up to half the required hours online through a state-approved provider. The other half can be completed through a live webinar format. You should know that the state requires that all candidates have a webcam to participate in the live webinar for ID verification purposes. 

How Do You Renew an Electrical License in Ohio?

Before the expiration deadline for your license, you must complete the required continuing education hours. It’s important for you to know that if you fail to do this before the deadline, you will be required to take additional hours. These additional hours are 10 for annual licenses and 30 for three-year licenses. 

Keep in mind that if you must take these additional CE hours, you are allowed to take only a maximum of four hours per year of renewal online, meaning four hours for annual licenses and 12 hours for three-year licenses. The remaining hours will need to be completed in a live setting. 

As you can see, it would take much less work and be much less time-consuming to just complete the qualifications well before the deadline so your license does not expire.
