From there, you can apply for your certification through the Pennsylvania Department of Labor and Industry. You’ll need to submit the required documentation and pay the application fee, after which you can receive your UCC certification card. 

Maintaining Your Pennsylvania Building Code Official License

Your certification is valid for three years, and you won’t be able to perform any UCC enforcement if it expires. If your license expires and you fail to renew it within one year, you may face additional recertification requirements. 

Continuing education is a critical part of maintaining your license. If you’re certified in one code category, you’ll need to complete 15 credit hours of approved continuing education each renewal term. 

Having certifications across multiple categories brings additional CE requirements. You’ll be expected to complete 15 hours per category, up to a maximum of 45 hours. A certain portion of the courses must relate to your specific certification categories.
