The state of Texas requires most food establishments to have a Certified Food Manager on site during all hours of operation. To obtain this certification, you must complete an approved food safety training course and pass an exam. The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has found that having a certified food manager on staff reduces the risk of foodborne illness outbreaks for an establishment.
To become a CFM, you must complete an accredited course and exam. The food manager certification must be renewed every 5 years. To renew your certification, you must complete a training course and pass a re-certification exam.
