Becoming a CFSM involves completing an accredited course and passing an exam. This certification must be renewed every three years, with the successful completion of a re-certification exam to maintain your certified status.

- In Baltimore County, free level II training is required for a volunteer fire company or bona fide nonprofit fraternal, civic, veteran, religious or charitable organization that operates a high or medium priority food service facility three days or less per week.
