The state of Indiana requires food establishments to have a Certified Food Protection Manager responsible for all hours of food service. However, this person does not need to be present during all hours of operation. Based on studies by the CDC, the presence of a CFPM helps to decrease the spread of foodborne illnesses in restaurants.

What courses are available for me to take online?
How do I become a CFPM in Indiana?
In Indiana, you can obtain your Food Protection Manager Certification online. To obtain your, certification you must complete a training course and then pass an exam. This certification expires every 5 years. For re-certification, you'll have to take an approved course and exam again.

What establishments do not need a CFPM?
Exempt Establishments
CFPM is not needed when the food establishment's food handling activities do not include the cooking of raw food of animal origin or are limited to one or more of the following:
- Heating or serving precooked foods
- Preparing or serving a continental breakfast such as rolls, coffee, juice, milk, and cold cereal
- Preparing or serving beverages or ice
- Preparing or serving packaged or unpacked low hazard foods: elephant ears, funnel cakes, cotton candy, confectioneries, baked goods, popcorn, chips, grinding coffee
- Providing prepacked food in its original package
