Cosmetology Continuing Education
Individual cosmetology licenses in South Carolina expire every odd numbered year. License holders are required to complete 4 hours of continuing education from an approved provider before this date. The CE topics are set by the board and must comply with their requirements. These renewal requirements apply to all Cosmetologist, Nail Technicians, and Estheticians. How to I Renew my South Carolina Cosmetology License?
In South Carolina, you are required to complete 4 hours of continuing education every year to renew your license. Continuing education must be completed by March 10th in every odd numbered year (2025, 2027, 2029, etc.). If your licenses expires you have 3 years to renew before it fully lapses. After these 3 years, you must retake the licensing exam.

What are the required CE topics for my license?
Exemptions
Those who meet any of these requirements are exempt from taking CE. Payment of the renewal fee is still required to keep a license active.
- If this is your first South Carolina license, you are not required to obtain CE hours for this renewal period. During your second licensing period and onward you must complete CE.
- Licensees who are age 60 or older and have held a license for at least 15 consecutive years are not required to complete CE hours.
- Licensees who are are 50 or older, have held a license for 30 or more years, and have not been disciplined by the board are not required to complete CE hours.
