All Oregon cosmetology certificate holders renewing on or after July 1, 2025 are required to complete and maintain current bloodborne pathogens (BBP) training. Oregon Bloodborne Pathogen training may be completed through online courses or in-person sessions and is valid for one year. Compliance is documented through attestation on the renewal application.

How do I renew my Bloodborne Pathogens Awareness Training?

In Oregon, you are required to complete your bloodborne pathogens training every year.

When do I renew my license & how many hours of Training do I need?

Cosmetologist Training Requirements
  • Those renewing their certifications on or after July 1, 2025 must have a current certification in bloodborne pathogens training.
  • The Bloodborne Pathogens Training is to be completed anually.
    • Because Cosmetology field of practice certifications are valid for two years, you may need to take your bloodborne pathogens training twice during your renewal cycle.
  • All Cosmetology certification holders renewing a field of practice (hair design, barbering, esthetics, nail technology, or natural hair care) are required to complete and maintain the training annually.
  • To renew your certifications, you must attest that you have a current certification in bloodborne pathogens training.
    • You must maintain records of your bloodborne pathogens training for 5 years following your renewal.
    • HLO will randomly audit a percentage of all active certification holders each year.
