In North Carolina, individual electrologist and laser hair practitioner licenses must be renewed every year. Before the license expires, the licensee must submit a Board-approved renewal application, show proof of completing Board-approved continuing education, meet all renewal requirements, and pay the renewal fee. The Board may allow late renewal with an additional late fee, but no license may be renewed more than 90 days after its expiration. More information can be found in the sections below.

How do I Renew my North Carolina Electrologist/Laser Hair Practitioners License?
In North Carolina, you are required to complete 10 hours of continuing education every year to renew your license. You may submit your renewal to the North Carolina Board of Cosmetic Art Examiners. A total of 10 hours of CE must be completed annually.

What are the renewal requirements for my license?
Electrologist/Laser Hair Practitioners
Electrologists – regular renewal:
- If you’re an electrologist in this state, you must complete 10 CEUs during each license period to renew your license.
Electrologists with 30+ years of continuous practice:
- If you’ve been licensed and practicing for 30 years or more without a break, you still need 10 CEUs, but only once every five years instead of every license period.
- The first five-year cycle starts from the date your license was issued in your 30th year of practice.
- Each new five-year cycle is counted from the license issue date in every fifth year after that.
Coming back from inactive status (electrologists & laser hair practitioners)
- If your license has been placed on inactive status for less than five years, and you want to return to active practice, you must show proof that you completed 10 CEUs credit within the 12 months before you apply to reactivate your license.
Laser Hair Practitioners – regular renewal:
- If you’re a laser hair practitioner in this state, you must complete 10 CEUs during each license period to renew your license.
