North Dakota assigns financial limits to each classifications a licensees may obtain. The limits relate to the maximum size job a contractor in that classification may bid on. Contractor License
Contractors in North Dakota are considered to be any person engaged in the business of construction, repair, alteration, dismantling, or demolition of bridges, highways, roads, streets, airports, damns, pipelines, and every other type of structure, project, development, or improvement coming within the definition of real or personal property, including the construction, alteration, or repair of property to be held either for sale or rental, and shall include subcontractor, public contractor, and nonresident contractor.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Contractor- Submit complete application to the Secretary of State
- License limits are as follows:
- Class A - Over $500,000 per job
- Class B - Up to $500,000 per job
- Class C - Up to $300,000 per job
- Class D - Up to $100,000 per job
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the North Dakota Secretary of State at 701-328-2900 or visit SOS website.
North Dakota has limited reciprocity agreements. Check with the state board for the most up-to-date information.
