What are the requirements to getting a certification?

Master  RequirementsLevel I

  • Pass the level I Exam
  • Meet the following experience requirements:
    • A minimum of 6 months of experience with Fire Detection and Signaling Systems
  • Meet all Level I Performance Measures
  • Personal Recommendations are not required
  • Major Projects are not required
Master  RequirementsLevel II

  • Pass the Level I and II Exams
  • Meet the following experience requirements:
    • A minimum of 2 years of Fire Detection and Signaling Systems experience, which MUST include:
      • At least 12 months of Fire Alarm Systems experience, including Alarm Detection, Notification, Sprinkler Monitoring, and Interfaces and Controls for agent releasing Suppression Systems (either agent or water-based systems) in any of the following roles/functions:
        1. Installation
        2. Inspection
        3. Testing
        4. Commissioning
        5. Technical System Estimating and Sales
        6. Plans Preparation
        7. Maintenance
    • The 2 years MAY include up to 12 months of related experience
  • Meet all Levels I and II Performance Measures
  • Personal Recommendations are not required
  • Major Projects are not required
Master  RequirementsLevel III

  • Pass the Level I, II, and III Exams
  • Meet the following experience requirements:
    • A minimum of 5 years of Fire Detection and Signaling Systems experience, which MUST include:
      • At least 45 months required for FAS Level III Fire Alarm Systems Experience including:
        1. Installation
        2. Maintenance
        3. Inspection
        4. Testing
        5. Commissioning
        6. Technical System Estimating and Sales
        7. Plans Preparation
        8. Code Compliance Review
        9. Project Management
        10. and/or Technical Business Management
    • The 3 additional years from Level II must include Field Experience, Team Leadership, and at least one year in a Fire Alarm Systems Technical Management Role.
    • The 5 years MAY include up to 15 months of related experience
  • Meet all Level I, II, and III Performance Measures
  • Personal Recommendation demonstrating independent engineering technician responsibilities
  • Major Projects are not required
Master  RequirementsLevel IV

  • Pass the Level I, II, III, and IV Exam
  • Meet the following experience requirements
    • A minimum of 10 years of Fire Detection and Signaling System experience, which MUST include:
      • At least 105 months of Fire Alarm Systems experience including:
        1. Technical Business Management
        2. Management Role in Installation
        3. Maintenance
        4. Inspection
        5. Testing
        6. Commissioning
        7. Technical System Estimating and Sales
        8. Plan Preparation
        9. Code Compliance Review
    • The 5 additional years from Level III must include at least 2 years of Overseeing Fire Alarm Systems Project Management
    • The 10 years MAY include up to 15 months of related experience
  • Meet all Level I, II, III, and IV Performance Measures
  • Personal Recommendation demonstrating senior engineering technician responsibilities
  • Major Project that shows senior responsibility for a Fire Alarm System Project of Substantial Complexity

How do I obtain a NICET certification?

Continuing education is required for each renewal every 3 years based on first certification. Certification holders must obtain 90 Continuing Professional Development (CPD) Points for each certification.

How do I pass the exam?

The NICET certification exam is open book. These references are permitted to be tabbed and highlighted! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the exam.

The exam prep includes math, plan reading, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
