An LP Gas Installer in Massachusetts is a person who does any work in installing, connecting, and moving from place to place undiluted liquefied petroleum gas salamanders, space heaters, and related equipment used in buildings under construction. A person who themself does any work in plumbing and gas fitting, subject to inspection under any law, rule, or regulation.

A Journeyman Gas Fitter in Massachusetts is a person who themself does any work in plumbing and gas fitting, subject to inspection under any law, rule, or regulation.

Master Gas Fitter
A Master Gas Fitter in Massachusetts is a gas fitter having a regular place of business and who, by himself or journeyman gas fitters in his employ, performs gas fitting work, subject to inspection and in compliance of any law, rule, or regulation pertaining to same.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
LP Gas Installer- Proof of Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- 220 hrs of Classroom Education Training
- Work Experience
- 3400 hrs
- Pass LP Gas Installer (Part I & II) Exams with a passing score of 70% or higher.
- CORI Background Check
Journeyman Gas Fitter- Proof of Education
- High School Diploma or GED
- 300 hrs of Apprentice Education Training
- Work Experience
- 5100 hrs
- Pass Journeyman Gas Fitters (Part I & II) Exams with a passing score of 70% or higher.
- CORI Background Check
Master Gas Fitter- Proof of Education
- 110 hrs of Tier 3 Third Year Training
- Work Experience
- 5100 hrs
- Pass Master Gas Fitter (Part I & II) Exams with a passing score of 70% or higher.
- Statement of Experience Form complete with your Journeyman Gas Fitter License Number
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Massachusetts Board of Registration of Plumbers and Gas Fitters at 617-701-8727 or visit mass.gov.
Massachusetts requires each licensee to complete Continuing education prior to each renewal. Massachusetts has reciprocity agreements with Maine, New Hampshire, Vermont, Washington and Oregon .

In order to sit for the exam, you must submit the application for licensure to the state. It must include verified education and work experience as required by the state. Once approved, the state will contact you with an exam date and time.
After studying with RocketCert, you will be on your way to passing the required State exam(s) (see below). Pre-approval is required. Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities.
After completing all the steps above, it will be time to apply through the DPL to obtain your Massachusetts Gas Fitter License. Once the PASS letter from the exam is received, the applicant should create an account in the ePlace portal and upload the PASS letter there.
