Louisiana requires all carpentry contractors to obtain a license before any bidding or work can take place. The Business & Law course accompanies the Carpentry exam as a requirement for licensure.   • Carpentry Contractor License

    A Carpentry Contractor License is required for commercial projects with a value of $50,000 or more including labor and materials. This classification refers to the the construction, maintenance, or repair of rough and finish carpentry and/or millwork, and is a subclassification of Building Construction.

What are the requirements to getting a license?

  • Complete & submit the Commercial Application.
  • Provide a financial statement affidavit showing a minimum of $10,000 net worth (must be current within 12 months of application)
  • Complete the Business & Law Course through the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors
  • Pass the Louisiana Carpentry Contractor Exam as well as the(pre-approval is required prior to taking the exam)

How do I obtain a license?

To apply for your license, contact the Louisiana State Licensing Board (LSLBC) at 225-765-2301 or visit their website.

The state requires continuing education prior to each renewal. Also, Louisiana has reciprocity agreements for certain licenses. For this license there are currently reciprocity agreements with Arkansas, Mississippi, Alabama, Utah, and Tennessee. For the most accurate information, contact the governing board for the jurisdiction you wish to be licensed in.

PASS THE STATE EXAM

How do I pass the exam?

The Louisiana Masonry exam is open book. The references below may be written in, highlighted, tabbed, and using during the exam! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
