What type of work can be done with this license?

Journeyman Plumber License
A Journeyman Plumber has the ability to engage or offer to engage in, as an occupation or trade, the construction, installation, alteration, maintenance, repair, remodeling, or removal and replacement of plumbing under the supervision, direction, and responsibility of a licensed plumbing contractor.

Plumbing Contractor License
A Plumbing Contractor has the ability to undertake or submit a bid to, or do himself or herself or by others, the construction, repair, alteration, remodeling, addition to, subtraction from, or improvement of plumbing and who be responsible for substantially all the plumbing within the entire project, or fabricate units or plumbing substantially completed and ready for installation.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Plumber- Have at least four (4) years in an apprenticeship program approved by the commission
OR Present to the commission a notarized statement providing evidence that the applicant has at least four (4) years of experience in the plumbing trade. - Submit a completed, signed, and notarized application form
- Pass the Indiana Journeyman Plumbing exam
Plumbing Contractor- Submit a completed, signed, and notarized application form
- Pass the Master Plumbing exam (pre-approval is required)
In-State Applicants
- Provide proof of successfully completing a four (4) year apprenticeship in an approved program.
OR - Provide a notarized affidavit verifying the applicant has completed a minimum of four (4) year of Plumbing Business experience.
Out-of-State Applicants or Current Indiana Journeyman Plumbers
- Applicants must have a minimum of four (4) years of license plumbing experience
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Indiana Plumbing Commission at 1-800-457-8283 or visit Board Website.
No continuing education is requried for license renewal. Also, Indiana has limited reciprocity arrangements with other boards. Check with the board for more details.

Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities. Pre-approval is required from the testing agency prior to scheduling the exam

How do I pass the exam?
The Indiana exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
The exam prep includes math, isometrics, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
