What type of work can be done with this license?

Journeyman Plumbing Exam
The state qualifies a Journey Worker Plumbing as any person who performs or supervises the actual physical work of installation, improvement, extension or alteration of plumbing systems under the direction of a plumbing contractor.

Plumbing Contractor License
Any person or entity providing or offering to provide plumbing contracting services, including but not limited to submitting a bid.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Journeyman Plumbing Requirements- Provide proof of a minimum of 4 years’ experience
- Submit application for exam approval with proof of
- Completion of a board approved 4 years course of instruction
- Minimum 4 years (8,000 hours) work experience under constant on-the-job supervision
- Pass the Idaho Plumbing Exam
Plumbing Contractor Requirements- Submit application for exam approval with proof of
- An active journeyman plumbing certificate
- a minimum of 2.5 years’ experience as a licensed journeyman plumber in the state of Idaho
- Submit application for exam approval
- Possess an active journeyman plumbing certificate
- Provide proof of a minimum of 2.5 years’ experience as a licensed journeyman plumber in a recognized jurisdiction
- Pass the Idaho Plumbing Contractor Exam

To apply for your license, contact the Idaho Division of Building Safety at 208-334-3950 or visit the board Website.
Idaho Journeyman Plumbers have reciprocity agreements with Montana, Oregon, and Washington.

Testing centers are setup throughout the State in larger cities. Pre-approval is required from the testing agency prior to scheduling the exam
After completing all the steps above, it will be time to apply through DBS to obtain your Idaho Plumbing License.

- Time allowed: 3 hours

How do I pass the exam?
The Idaho exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
The exam prep includes math, isometrics, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".

- Guide to Tabbing - This section includes tabbing books and other test taking strategies to keep calm and focused during the exam.
