Plumber Journeyman Licensing & Exam Prep
Upon application approval, a Certificate of Fitness is issued in Alaska. For the Plumber Journeyman Certificate of Fitness applicants must obtain at least 8,000 hours of experience subject to the National Electric Code. Find the other requirements and steps to obtaining a license below.

Plumber Journeyman
A Journeyman Plumber is licensed to install, repair, and maintain plumbing systems including pipes, fixtures, and appliances. Read and interpret blueprints to determine the layout of plumbing systems. Perform pipe threading and ensure proper connections for water supply and drainage systems.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Plumbing ExperienceA minimum of 8,000 hours of work experience in installation of commercial/residential plumbing.
- Up to 1,000 hours of trade-related classroom training may be substituted for time in the field.
- No maintenance hours apply.
Legal Requirements- Submit a completed and notarized Application for Certification of Fitness
- Pass the Plumber Journeyman exam
- Provide verification of work experience as a part of the completed application
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your license, contact the Alaska Labor Standards and Safety Division at 907-269-4925 or visit their website.
16 hours of continuing education is required for renewal. Alaska has no reciprocity agreements at this time.

How do I pass the exam?
The Alaska exams are open book. The references below are permitted to be tabbed, highlighted, and used during your test! Unfortunately, our online course is NOT permitted to be accessed during the State exam.
