Residential Roofing Licenses fall under the Home Builder Licensing Board in Alabama. Unlike most licenses, an exam is not required. According to Alabama law, a Residential Roofing pertains to those who install products or repair surfaces on the external upper covering of a residence or structure that seals, waterproofs, or weatherproofs the residence or the structure, when the cost of the undertaking exceeds $2,500.
The scope of work allowed by this license includes installing, repairing, or replacing roofs on any residential or commercial building. Fabricating, installing, repairing, or replacing any sheet metal components used in roofing, ventilation, and other applications. Performing work on gutters, downspouts, flashing, and other components related to roofing and sheet metal work. Conducting inspections of roofs and sheet metal work to assess damage and make recommendations for repairs or replacement. Providing estimates and quotes for roofing and sheet metal work to potential clients.

No continuing education hours are required for renewal.
Alabama does not require applicants to pass an exam to obtain this license. However, in order to qualify for this license, applicants must have held a contractor license for at least one year.
Applicants must hold or have held a business or occupational license as a contractor in Alabama for at leat one year prior to application.
The state requires all applicants to submit proof of a license or permit bond of at least $10,000 naming the board as an Obligee.
