Code Enforcement Officer
Code enforcement officers are tasked with the inspection of public or private premises for the purpose of identifying environmental hazards, including: fire or health hazards; nuisance violations; unsafe building conditions; and violations of any fire, health, or building regulation, statute, or ordinance; and improving and rehabilitating those premises with regard to those hazards.

- Completion of an approved code enforcement officer training program
- Submit a copy of the TEEX certificate with the registration application
- Pass the Texas Code Enforcement Officer Exam
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your Code Enforcement license, contact the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation at 512-463-6599 or visit their website.
Licensed Code Enforcement Officers in Texas are required to obtain 12 hours of continuing education within the 24 months preceding renewal of registration while Code Enforcement Officers in training must complete at least 6 hours of continuing education hours within the 12 months preceding renewal of a registration. Licenses are to be renewed every two years for code enforcement officers and every year for code enforcement officers in training.
