Building Code Official
A Building Code Official ensures that all residential and commercial buildings comply with state and local construction codes by reviewing plans, issuing permits, conducting inspections, and enforcing regulations. They provide guidance on land use, respond to inquiries, and coordinate with other departments and emergency management to assess project compliance and disaster impacts.
What are the requirements to getting a license?
Building OfficialThe Building Official Certification course is designed for individuals seeking certification from the State of Oregon as a building official, and who meet these two requirements:
- Individual is employed by a municipality and has been appointed to conduct building official or assistant duties as needed by the municipality
- Individual is currently in negotiations with a municipality for employment as a building official or assistant building official (Verification may be required)
How do I obtain a license?
To apply for your Building Official license, contact the Oregon Inspector Training Program at 503-373-7974 or visit their website.
Certified code enforcement officers in Oregon are required to complete code change courses and high-priority training when needed. The division may determine that a code change course is not required if a given code was not significantly changed or the division otherwise determined a code change course is unnecessary. Licenses are to be renewed every three years (2023, 2026, 2029, etc.).

How do I pass the exam?
The exam prep includes math, geometry, highlighting guides covering the topics your exam is based on, practice questions for each references, and unlimited attempts on our "test simulation".
