Licensed Building Contractor Under Four Stories in North Carolina
  • Mechanical Inspector

    A mechanical inspector is responsible for conducting inspections of mechanical systems in various settings, including residential, commercial, and industrial properties. Their primary responsibility is to ensure that these systems comply with the Michigan Mechanical Code and applicable safety regulations. This involves inspecting components such as HVAC systems, ductwork, boilers, and plumbing systems to assess proper installation, safety measures, and functionality. Mechanical inspectors also issue permits, enforce compliance, and maintain comprehensive inspection records, with a strong focus on prioritizing safety and ensuring that mechanical systems meet the required standards.

What are the requirements to getting a license?

North Carolina splits their Mechanical Inspector License into three different levels: Level I, Level II, and Level III. Each of these levels has different educational and experience requirements as well as different limitations regarding building size and number of stories.


Arizona Limited Building Contractor RequirementsLevel I

  • Possess a Highschool Diploma or equivalent
  • Provide notarized certification by a city or county manager, clerk, or director of inspection department that the applicant will be performing "code enforcement"
  • Make a grade of at least 70 on courses developed by the Board.
  • All applicants must successfully complete a law and administration course
  • Achieve a passing grade of 70 percent on the written examination administered by the Board
  • Satisfy the Level I educational or experience requirements
  • Apply for licensure

How do I obtain a license?

To apply for your Code Official license, contact the North Carolina Office of State Fire Marshal's Code Officials Qualification Board (COQB) at 800-634-7854 or visit their website.

Licensed Code Officials in North Carolina are required to obtain 6 hours of continuing education every renewal cycle. Licenses are to be renewed every year.
