How do I renew my Residential Building Contractor license in Louisiana?

In Louisiana, residential contractors must complete 6 hours of continuing education each year before December 31st. To renew, you are required to complete the required continuing education and submit your renewal to the State. The board requires licensees to maintain their certificates of completion for up to 5 years so copies can be provided to the board upon request.

What are the required topics and hours for my license?

Contractor Residential Building Contractor license (6 hours)

A residential construction contractor is required to complete a minimum of six (6) hours of continuing education annually by a board-approved provider. The contractor will maintain their education certificate for a five-year period and provide copies to the Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors, if requested.

  • 1 hour in health protection, consumer protection, or environmental protection
  • 1/2 should include the Act, Louisiana State Residential Building Contractor Board rules
  • 2 hours of current industry practices and codes and subjects from a list published and approved by the Louisiana State Residential Building Contractor Board

Exemptions: If a Residential Building Contractor also holds a current, valid Building Construction; Highway, Street, and Bridge Construction; Heavy Construction; Municipal or Public Works Construction, then the licensee is considered to have satisfied the CE requirement.
