In order to renew your home builder’s license in Alabama, you are required by the state of Alabama Home Builders Licensure Board to complete a minimum of six hours of continuing education (CE) credit each renewal year.

In Alabama, home builder licenses are good for only one year. You must complete six hours of CE each year by no later than November 30th. If you submit your required completion verification late, you will be charged $50 by the state. Renewal begins October 1st and ends December 31st.

The board will mail out a series of informational pieces to inform and remind you of renewals. You can request a paper renewal package if you like, but the state h3ly urges everyone who can renew online to do so.

It’s important to note that online renewal logins are disabled at midnight on January 1. After that time, any license that has yet to be renewed is classified as expired. The state automatically applies a $350 application processing fee for any expired license.

Exemptions from Renewal Requirements

Licensees over the age of 60 do not need to take any CE courses to renew their licenses. In addition, if you are or were in the military and were deployed for 90 consecutive days during the licensure year, you are exempt from the six required hours of CE. 

Finally, in cases of personal hardship or if you are renewing your license for the first time, you are not required to take the CE courses.
