U.S. electrical contracting giant Helix Electric, Inc. has selected Goodyear, Arizona as the site of its first manufacturing facility, an announcement that should be welcome news to Arizona residents.

The new factory is expected to be 112,000 square feet, and the company will fabricate and manufacture parts there to be used in electrical construction.

This will be an especially important investment for Helix. In addition to electrical contracting, the company also handles extremely complex projects brought to them from around the nation.

Part of the VB|143 Project

The VB|143 project, located on the southwest corner of Van Buren Street and 143rd Ave., consists of two buildings, a 213,000 square warehouse and the smaller facility that Helix purchased, which occupies a total of 9.6 acres.

Helix purchased the building for $14.8 million from Airport Gateway West, LLC, although they are a part of the larger Baker Development Corporation, which is based in Chicago.

Construction on these two buildings began in 2019, with a total price tag for both buildings coming in at $28 million.

One of the main draws of the VB|143 project is that it is located in what is known as a foreign trade zone. This means the area is subject to reduced rates on taxes, as well as the possibility to eliminate all fees associated with importing, like duties, tariffs, and costs for reporting to customs.

Why This Is Good News for Goodyear

The Helix Electrical manufacturing site is a positive development for Goodyear. It will bring a number of jobs to the area, including production staff, engineers, administrators, and support staff. With the factory expected to ship goods across the nation, there should be plenty of demand to keep the factory running at full capacity.

However, the Helix plant is also part of a trend in large industrial and commercial real estate projects in the Goodyear area. With the area attracting more building and manufacturing projects, the area should continue to be a magnet for talented individuals.

Take the Goodyear AirPark, which was announced earlier this month. LPC Desert West and Harvard Investments have partnered to develop 585 acres near the Phoenix-Goodyear airport into a massive industrial park, a large-scale development they hope will attract tech and manufacturing firms.

The final Goodyear AirPark plans call for up to 20 buildings, containing a total of 7 million square feet of workspace. In addition, the area will include 10,000 square feet of retail space, making it more attractive for nearby Estrella Mountain Ranch, an attractive master-planned community.
