Auctioneer Continuing Education & License Renewal
Virginia auctioneer licenses must be renewed every two years based on first licensure date. In order to renew, you must complete 6 hours of continuing education courses. All training must be approved by the Virginia State Board of Auctioneers.

How do I renew my auctioneer license in Virginia?
In Virginia, auctioneer licenses expire every two years based on first licensure date. To renew, you are required to complete 6 hours of continuing education. After that, you must submit your renewal to the Virginia State Board of Auctioneers.

Exemptions
Exemptions from the continuing education requirements:
- Have been licensed by the Board for at least 25 years AND be over the age of 70
- Active-duty military personnel and their spouses having served outside the U.S., as well as certain diplomatic service members and veterans, may be eligible to receive up to a five-year extension for meeting license renewal requirements
- For honorably discharged veterans, “substantially equivalent” military training, education, or experience may be credited toward certain license requirements
- Spouses of active-duty military personnel assigned to a duty station in Virginia are eligible for expedited processing using the Military Spouse Expedited License Application
- The Board may grant exemptions or waive or reduce the number of continuing education hours required in cases of certified illness or undue hardship
