Virginia Contractors License
Obtain or Renew Your License in Virginia
A contractor's license is required in Virginia for project's over $1,000. However, all electrical, HVAC, gas and plumbing work requires a master or journeyman license (click below for details). Also, the tradesman licenses require continuing education to be completed for each renewal.
Virginia Contractor licenses are divided into three categories: A, B, and C. The difference in the classifications are based on project size. The first step is to successfully complete an 8 Hour pre license education course. In addition to completing the requirements for becoming an A, B, or C contractor, you will also need to pass a trade exam (such as commercial building / home improvement) or being a master for your trade.
